| Is Brigadoon catch and release only? |
Definitely! Every possible precaution is taken to protect and preserve these magnificent trout. We are strictly fly-fishing, catch and release only. |
| What weight rod do you recommend? |
A five weight is just about perfect. Most use an 8'6" (or 9" for more the more experienced angler) with a five weight forward floating line. |
| What flies both wet and dry work best at Brigadoon? And when? |
In the spring and fall the dry action is terrific! There are some spectacular mayfly hatches so parachute adams, cahill, and caddis have been very successful. Smaller flies work well too. (Size 12 - 16) Later in the season nymphs, woolly buggers, pheasant tails. We recommend that you speak with your guide a few days prior to your visit for the latest hatch information. |
| Do you have a fly shop on the premises? |
Yes. Brigadoon Fly Shop has a number of custom rods and reels and a full selection of premium hand tied flies. In addition we carry a full line of Brigadoon gear - hats shirts, vests anything the well-outfitted angler needs! |
| Do you rent equipment and waders? If so, what are the rates? |
Yes. Equipment can be rented from the Fly Shop. This is very convenient for guests who are traveling without their gear or beginners who might not have equipment. Rates are: $40.00 per session for afull out fit including rod, waders and boots;$25.00 for the rod only. |
| What is the best time of year for fishing? |
All seasons offer exceptional fishing opportunities. |
| Must you stay overnight to fish Brigadoon? |
No. Day only fishing is available year round. We recommend staying overnight for the full experience but do not require it. We offer slots for the upcoming season with a four-rod limit per weekday and six-rod limit per session on weekends. |
| Do you recommend a guide? |
Highly. Our Professional Guides are required and are mandatory for all beginners. Junior Guides/Ghillies (also known as "Netboys") are required for the more experienced angler. |
| What are your hours per session? |
We fish from 9:00 Am until noon and then take a mandatory break for lunch, resume fishing at one and fish until 5:00 PM. An eight-hour session of fishing has seven hours on the water. |
| Are meals provided? |
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all options of your Brigadoon package. Meals: Continental breakfast - 20.00 per head. Includes, muffins, fruit, cereal, milk, OJ, coffee etc...
Buffet lunch - 25.00 per head. Either hot BBQ or cold salad/sandwich.
Cabin Dining - Both the large cabin, Cragganmore and the small cabin have kitchens and grills. Chef and catering packages are available. Prices vary according to menu. Please inquire with Kay in Guest Services for prices and menus. Our chefs can prepare (almost) any menu you want! |
| What are fishing guests expected to bring? |
Guests are not expected to bring anything except themselves and a big smile! Shorts or seasonal gear is all that is recommended. Even summer nights can be cool so do bring a sweater. The guide and rental equipment packages can take care of the rest |
